Psycho social workshop was organized by Depilex Smileagain Foundation for the acid burn victims.  Consultant Ayesha Chundrigar, Certified Therapist/Counsellor from CPPD (Center for Personal and Professional Development) Counselling School, UK, was engaged to hold a daylong session in Karachi. 20 victims from Sind and Baluchistan were gathered to benefit from this exercise.
Self process therapeutic exercises were planned to enhance positive body image and self confidence. The exercises were engaging, light-hearted and fun as well as deep, moving and powerful.
The consultant held ‘get to know each other’ session with the participants. It was a motivational workshop targeting the running themes which were identified by the consultant in pre workshop sessions.
The workshop focused on confidence building, self-worth, positive reinforcement and positive body image and valuing oneself in the face of adversity and hardship.
The consultant adopted the role of a motivational speaker as well as participant in all the activities. Mingling with participants helped in ice breaking and building two way communications. Because of this approach the participants felt at ease with the consultant and with each other.
The exercises were targeted to the commonality of themes which were identified and understood in pre workshop sessions by the consultant.
Self Image
The participants were asked to draw a self image on a piece of paper. It was folded and kept aside, to be revisited at the end of the workshop
Trust Building
The participants got into groups of 3 or pairs of 2 and shared something personal about themselves with each other.
The participants in groups shared the most painful moments of life, followed by the happiest moment that they enjoyed the most.
Positive Reinforcement
The participants stood in a circle throwing a ball/pillow gently from one person to the other and saying something nice about them in the process.
Nourish and Nurture
Musical chairs – important to nourish and nurture the fun loving child in every one
At the ending session the participants were asked to redraw the self image. The redrawing reflected happiness on self discovery
