Milestone Achievements
Response to COVID-19
During the Spread of COVID-19, DSF Followed proper SOPs and maintained social distancing while implementing regular activities. Medical Treatment, psycho-social support workshops, vocational trainings and small business set ups continued along with participation in webinars as part of the advocacy campaign.
Most importantly burnt victims were educated about the precautionary measures that everyone must take during the pandemic. As an additional economic support DSF collected and provided rashan bags to the burnt victims and their families.
DSF also arranged vaccination of the burnt victims and its support staff. DSF regularly support and encourage students from educational institutes to write thesis on the issues highlighting violence against women.
Passage of the Acid Crime Prevention Bill (2011)
DSF, alongside civil society partners, advocated for stronger laws and faster trials for acid violence and domestic abuse cases. Their efforts led to the Senate passing the Acid Control and Acid Crime Prevention Bill in December 2011—an amendment to the Pakistan Penal Code 1860.
Legislation on Acid Control (2020–2021)
In partnership with PWPA, the Ministry of Human Rights, and IFSD, DSF helped formulate an Acid Control Bill aimed at regulating the sale and purchase of corrosive substances. The initiative promoted gender equality and proposed a strengthened legislative framework to combat acid violence.
Sindh Regulation for Acid Sale and Storage (2022)
DSF, represented by Masarrat Misbah and an acid attack survivor, filed a successful petition in the Sindh High Court to regulate acid storage and sales. Approved in November 2022, this ruling is a crucial first step toward nationwide acid crime prevention.
Resilience, Empowerment & Hope
DSF remains in touch with its family of survivors and follows through till they are settled in the social mainstream. After receiving due training many survivors have become skilled beauticians, chefs, small business owners, and factory workers. We also have a lady lawyer, who was encouraged and supported to complete her degree in Law. We happily share that 27 girls after receiving full medical treatment have been married, have become mothers and are enjoying happy family life.
Each success story is a milestone of resilience, empowerment and hope.
